Four new visit visa categories

Online extension without leaving the country
Since December 2025, most 30-day and 60-day tourist and business visit visas can be extended online through the ICP portal. No exit and re-entry run is required. That single change removed a costly and stressful trip for thousands of visitors.
Wider eligibility for entry visas
In June 2026 the ICP expanded eligibility for certain entry visas. Nationals of Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa were added to categories that previously covered Indian nationals. The qualifying countries of residence also grew to include Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, alongside the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.
Applicants must meet both the nationality and the residence condition. The published fees for these categories are AED 100 for the 14-day visa and AED 250 for the 60-day visa. The 14-day option may be extended once, while the updated 60-day category is single entry and non-extendable.
Longer and multi-entry options

Residence Visa and Golden Visa Changes
Residency saw fewer headline changes but more meaningful ones. Two matter most. Who qualifies, and how long you can stay away.
Golden Visa updates
The Golden Visa stays a 10-year renewable residence permit with no mandatory sponsor. In 2026 the eligible categories widened to include artificial intelligence specialists, climate-tech entrepreneurs, and cultural professionals. Holders also gained access to consular services while travelling abroad, announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the ICP.
The property investor route
Property remains a route into long-term residency. Reported thresholds differ between sources this year, and Dubai has treated the shorter investor visa separately from the federal Golden Visa. Confirm the current figure with the Dubai Land Department or the ICP before you buy anything on that basis.
The 180-day absence rule
This one catches people out every year. Stay outside the UAE for 180 consecutive days and a standard residence visa is cancelled automatically. Golden, Blue, and Green visa holders are exempt from that limit.
Switching status inside the country
Visit visa and jobseeker visa holders can now move to employment residency without leaving the UAE. Approved applicants receive a 60-day employment entry permit. That window covers the medical test, biometrics, Emirates ID, and final stamping.
Overstay Fines and Grace Periods
Enforcement tightened faster than any other area. The rules are not complicated, but the details vary by visa type.
Current ICP visa pages list an overstay fine of AED 50 per day. The clock can start when your allowed stay ends, or when a visa ends or is cancelled. Do not apply one grace period rule across every visa type, because the start point genuinely differs.
The 2026 waiver caused real confusion, so here is the clean timeline. The ICP waived overstay fines for travellers stranded by regional airspace closures from late February 2026. A second window ran from 10 June to 9 July 2026, but only for people already covered by the original exemption.
That programme has now ended. Standard fines apply again from day one of the overstay. Airport systems flag overstays automatically, and fines are settled before departure.

First, MOHRE checks Wage Protection System status in real time when an employment visa application is filed. Employers with unpaid wage arrears cannot issue new permits until the arrears clear. That links payroll health directly to hiring capacity.
Second, working for a UAE employer on a tourist or visit visa remains illegal. Reported penalties include heavy fines, deportation, and a labour ban. Inspections now reach co-working spaces, not just offices.
